Victim, cause of death identified in Kinderhook Creek death investigation
STUYVESANT, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Detectives with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office have released the identity and cause of death for a person recovered in the Kinderhook Creek on Friday.
According to deputies, the victim has been identified as Angel Arnoldo Garcia Mendoza, 26, of Stuyvesant Falls. Deputies said the cause of death has been determined to be a drowning.
Around 9 a.m. on July 25, emergency responders arrived to the creek off of Lindenwald Avenue near Stuyvesant for reports of a car submerged in the water. According to the sheriff's office, Mendoza was declared dead after dive teams found him.
The Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company, the Stuyvesant Fire Company, the Valatie Rescue Squad, and New York State Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
Deputies said the incident, however, remains under investigation.
