Young Spiders undone by Hearts’ last kick of the game

0

QUEEN’S PARK under-19s’ last pre-season friendly ended in a 3-2 defeat to Hearts at Oriam on Tuesday.

But the Young Spiders took the game all the way and only the last kick of the game swung it for the Edinburgh side.

Charley King had less options at his disposal with the Queen’s Park first team also in action at Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup.

However Leo Clark gave the Spiders the lead almost as soon as the game had kicked off after a ball through from Cole Goldie.

Josiah Sowa scored the Spiders’ second and they led with half an hour to go.

But a late Hearts comeback swung the game in their favour – and the outcome was not undeserved said 19s coach Charley King.

He explained: “Although we led for a large part of the game, if we are honest we have played better in our previous pre-season games than we did here.

“Hearts came back and that wasn’t undeserved but over the piece in pre-season I’m pelased with how we have prepared for the season.

“Everyone has had match minutes throughout the squad and down into the under-17s too, so will be prepared for when the league begins next week in Dundee.

“It was good to see plenty of the under-17s again feature and know they are there to step up and supplement the 19s if needed.

“Likewise it has also been great to see the 19s working with the first team and earning game-time in Sean Crighton’s squad and it has been a positive summer on the training ground for us as we look forward to the league campaign kick-off.”
