European Powers May Resume Nuclear Talks with Iran Next Week

0

European nations plan nuclear talks with Iran next week, aiming to restart diplomacy stalled after U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.

The United Kingdom, Germany, and France are reportedly preparing to resume talks with Iran next week regarding its nuclear program, according to Iranian media.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday, July 20, that Iran is expected to participate in the proposed discussions. Although the core of the talks has been agreed upon, the host country and final date are still being determined.

These developments follow renewed contact between the foreign ministers of the three European nations—known as the E3—and Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The outreach came in the aftermath of recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities.

In response, European powers have warned that if Iran fails to return to the negotiating table, United Nations sanctions could be reinstated under the snapback mechanism.

Iran’s foreign minister has criticized this approach, stating that the E3 and the European Union must act responsibly. He dismissed the snapback mechanism and similar pressure tactics as lacking both legal and moral legitimacy.

Tehran’s participation in nuclear talks had stalled following last month’s strikes on its nuclear infrastructure. The potential revival of diplomacy signals cautious optimism but also underscores the deep mistrust still present among all parties involved.

With tensions running high, the outcome of the proposed talks may determine whether the region steps back from escalation or moves closer to confrontation.
