Insider Slaps Red Sox With ‘Motivated’ Label Ahead Of Trade Deadline
The Boston Red Sox are currently the hottest team in the majors. After winning their final 10 games before the All-Star break, the Red Sox have jumped all the way up to the second wild card spot in the American League, and they appear primed to make a playoff run over the final few months of the season.
With the trade deadline quickly approaching, Boston has been involved in all sorts of rumors. There are several needs the front office could look to address, and their ongoing win streak ensures they will be buyers rather than sellers.
The Red Sox have already swung the biggest trade of the year when they shockingly sent Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. However, even in the immediate aftermath of that move, president of baseball operations, Craig Breslow, has made it clear Boston won’t be selling at the deadline.
With a postseason berth well within their reach, what the Sox do at the deadline has suddenly become increasingly important. According to one team insider, Rob Bradford of WEEI, the front office is “motivated” to go out and make some noise before the deadline strikes.
“I do think that (the Red Sox) are more motivated this trade deadline than we have seen in years,” Bradford said on “Jones & Keefe.”
In the past few seasons, Boston has been in playoff contention when returning from the All-Star break, only to flame out down the stretch. While the front office has operated as a buyer, bringing pieces to town in hopes of bolstering their squad’s playoff hopes, it has not been enough to get the team over the hump.
With a youth movement underway at Fenway Park, there seems to be a real sense of urgency from the front office when it comes to adding to their current team. As a result, there could be some more fireworks in Boston over the next few weeks.
For now, the first order of business for the Red Sox will be to continue their lengthy win streak. They will look to pick up their 11th straight victory when they return to action on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.
