How Trump plans to dismantle the Education Department after Supreme Court ruling
The Supreme Court has cleared the way for President Donald Trump to continue unwinding the Education Department. The ruling allows the department to move ahead with mass layoffs and a plan to outsource work to other federal agencies. Education Secretary Linda McMahon is expected to move quickly. Lawyers from the department have already previewed the plans in court filings. Trump in March suggested the Small Business Administration would take on federal student loans. But a court filing in June indicated the Treasury Department is expected to take over the work. The department had also recently struck a deal to outsource workforce training and adult education to the Department of Labor.
