Wimbledon Final Stopped by Embarrassing Fan Mistake
At Wimbledon, fans are known for keeping it classy--for the most part. Sometimes, they can cross the line, however.
Even then, fans going overboard at Wimbledon doesn't look how it does at other sporting venues. Multiple times during this year's event at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, we've seen play interrupted by champagne bottles being popped.
Last Sunday, a fan popped a cork right as American Amanda Anisimova, the eventual women's runner-up, was about to serve, much to Anisimova's dismay.
This afternoon, the men's singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was briefly paused because someone popped a champagne bottle and the cork got loose on the court.
"At least take the bottle away from that person," tennis legend John McEnroe quipped on the BBC.

You can't help but laugh at the public address announcer in the background asking fans not to pop corks while players are about to serve. We're betting that Wimbledon is the only sporting event in the world where that message would be delivered.
Thankfully, the errant cork didn't put a halt to Sinner-Alcaraz for too long. The action on Center Court has been furious all day, with Sinner bouncing back and winning the second and third sets after Alcaraz took the first set 6-4.
Sinner currently leads the fourth set 4-3. You can watch the action on ESPN.
If this result holds, Sinner, the No. 1 player in the world, will have his first Wimbledon title and fourth career Grand Slam. He previously won the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025 and the U.S. Open last year.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, is the two-time defending Wimbledon champion.
