Syria's massive wildfires brought under control after days of intense battles

Syria’s worst wildfires in years have been brought under control after 10 days of intense firefighting. Civil Defense officials announced Sunday that efforts, including aerial and ground teams, halted the spread in Latakia’s forested mountains. Strong winds, extreme heat, and leftover war ordnance fueled the fires, burning over 15,000 hectares. Firefighters, including defectors who rejoined the air force after the fall of the Assad government, worked tirelessly, with some injured during operations. The United Nations allocated $625,000 for emergency aid, as thousands were displaced and farmland destroyed. Officials praised international support from Turkey, Jordan, and others, vowing to extinguish all hotspots and prevent future outbreaks.
