UN's food agency limits aid operations in West and Central Africa due to funding cuts
The U.N.'s World Food Programme says it will suspend various food and nutritional assistance in vulnerable countries across West and Central Africa as a result of U.S. aid cuts that have left the agency struggling. “We are doing everything we can to prioritize the most life-saving activities, but without urgent support from our partners, our ability to respond is shrinking by the day,” Margot van der Velden, the WFP’s regional director, told The Associated Press. Millions of already vulnerable people are expected to be immediately impacted by a rise in inpatient admissions of hungry children already seen in Nigeria's northern region. The suspension of operations is predicted to contribute to instability in the region.
