Tyson Bagent Again Took A Savage Shot At Previous Bears Coaching Staff
Being the backup quarterback means you won’t be the most visible player in an organization. You’re stuck in the shadow of the starter. You only start to matter for one of two reasons: the starter got hurt or the starter sucks. Rarely do backup quarterbacks get attention for their words. Yet Tyson Bagent keeps finding ways to do that. Make no mistake. The third-year player isn’t some hot head who spouts whatever comes to mind. He has far more class and common sense than that.
That said, it is also evident that Bagent isn’t afraid to speak the truth.
Undoubtedly, that comes from his father, an arm wrestling champion and notorious motormouth. The quarterback has made his opinions well-known this offseason on multiple subjects. None more so than what he thought of Matt Eberflus and his previous coaching staff. Bagent was asked during an interview with Jeff Joniak what he thinks of Ben Johnson’s crew. He openly admitted that if he ever became a coach, he would do it exactly how Johnson does. What Eberflus did the previous two years often clashed with how Bagent felt it should’ve been done.
Tyson Bagent isn’t hiding his lack of respect for Eberflus.
Remember, those comments he’s making are the sanitized version. He’s using those words because he is a professional and must act that way. One can only imagine what Tyson Bagent would say if he were allowed to speak freely with expletives involved. It is safe to say he doesn’t like Eberflus and feels the former head coach was a primary reason the team kept losing. One can imagine his relief when the man was fired last November. Johnson must feel like an exquisite breath of fresh air. He’s energetic, intense, and holds players accountable for everything they do. For a grinder like Bagent, that is sweet, sweet music.
