'Money Destroys Taste': Jeff Bezos And Lauren Sánchez' Wedding Invite Savaged Online

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Venice wedding has officially kicked off (but not in the Scuola Grande della Misericordia location they’d reportedly originally planned – protesters, they claim, took care of that).

Instead, the couple and their guests – speculated to include Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, and Eva Longoria – will move to Arsenale, a complex of shipyards quite literally fortified by ancient stone walls.

Those opposed to the undeniably extravagant wedding have a rich seam of complaints to draw from. There are the (many) private jets and superyachts it’s expected to attract. There are the horrific optics of a billionaire’s wedding in a time of increasing inequality to consider.

Though horrid, these were at least expected. What took some X users by surprise, however, was the quality of the couple’s invite – which some have dubbed the “ugliest” they’ve ever seen.

ABC News was the first to share the butterfly-covered invite, which one X user said looked like it was made in Microsoft Paint.

“No gifts,” the sheet beseeched guests – instead, they asked attendees to consider donating to the UNESCO Venice Office.

But pleas for people to repay the “magical” city have not convinced protestors, and do not seem to have distracted netizens from the, er, questionable design of the invite.

“This invitation looks like an 11-year-old made it,” a comment underneath Pop Crave’s repost of the image reads.

Others were far blunter. “For a billionaire that sure is the ugliest fucking invite ever,” a repost says

“This invite design is proof that taste cannot be bought,” yet another comment states.

The invite, which does have something of the bad preteen Canva birthday invitation about it, has been officially dubbed “tacky” – perhaps especially damning given the £41 million estimated cost of the multi-day ’do.

“Truly fascinating how money seems to destroy taste. What in the clip art Word document is that invite when you have the funds for the world’s best graphic designers at your fingertips,” an X says, summarising the general reaction to the ‘art’.

Though dislike of the invite can’t, as the protests may have, change much for the couple, it seemed to be as (or even more) unanimous.
