Paramount+ Announces Major Change Erasing 'Showtime' Name
Streaming watchers are used to seeing the iconic brand names "Paramount+" and "Showtime" together.
However, Paramount+ has now made a big branding change. It's erasing the name "Showtime" from its name on the ad-free plan.
The big change came down on June 23, according to a statement on its website.
Despite that change, users won't see much of a difference.
The statement comes under the header, "Why did you change the name of the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan to the Premium plan?"
On June 23, "we updated the name of our ad-free plan from Paramount+ with SHOWTIME to Paramount+ Premium," the statement says.
"Since we recently introduced a sampling of SHOWTIME programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers," the statement continues.
"SHOWTIME programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service! In addition, the name of the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME network on your cable, satellite, or live TV streaming service (like Hulu with Live TV) will not be changing," the network added.
However, despite the name change, subscribers won't see a price change, at least not now, Variety noted.
"Please note: depending on your device, you may not see the plan name change immediately. But rest assured, if you sign up for the Premium plan while it's still Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, your plan benefits will not be impacted! Keep reading for more info," Paramount+ wrote.
According to Adweek, the change could confuse some users. It comes as Paramount "continues to tinker with its streaming offering," that site noted, adding that the company shut down "its Showtime streamer in April 2024" and raised Paramount+ streaming tier prices a year ago.
