The 2025 European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup makes it second stop of the year on Sunday 22 June, as the continent’s top athletes take to the Parque Urbano de Albarquel in the municipality of Setubal, Portugal for another round of action.

The event follows the European Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships, which took place at the same venue from Thursday – Saturday of the same week. This unique opportunity has given athletes both sets of athletes the opportunity to liaise and build a good rapport as the events overlapped.

The start lists for Cup include several athletes who featured in the opening leg in Protaras, Cyprus, where Italy’s Andrea Filadelli and Poland’s Klaudia Tarasiewicz claimed victory at the first leg.

In the men’s 10km race, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Portugal are amongst the fourteen countries to be taking to the pontoon ahead of the event, with an impressive mix of both experienced open water swimmers and promising young talents in the 25-strong contingent. France’s Sacha Velly, who took silver last weekend at the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup at the same venue, returns for another chance at glory this time around, as well as Italy’s open water swimming veteran Marcello Guidi and Ireland’s Nathan Wiffen, who is trying his hand at open water.

The 12-strong women’s field includes a number of well-established names on the international circuit. France’s Caroline Jouisse, who took bronze at the World Cup last weekend, is one of the standout entrants and will likely be in and around the medallists when they come into the finish.

Monaco’s Lisa Pou was also inside the top ten last weekend, and will be looking to make her mark on the continental stage when the action unfolds, as will Italy’s Giulia Berton, after her silver medal in Cyprus’ first leg.

The second leg of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2025 provides athletes with a valuable opportunity to secure points early in the season and assess their form ahead of major championship events later in the summer. With varying coastal conditions often influencing tactics and outcomes in Setubal, Sunday’s races are expected to provide another exciting chapter in the 2025 series.

The men’s and women’s 10km races will both take place on Sunday morning, with the start scheduled for 11:00 local time.
