THE rhythm of poetry is set to echo through school halls as the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo launches a group poetry competition for high schools.
In a bold move to spark creativity among the youth, the country’s longest-running cultural fiesta is calling on schools to register for the high-stakes poetry showdown set for September.
“We’re excited to announce a group poetry competition for schools. The competition encourages students to explore their creativity and express themselves through poetry,” read a post by the organisers.
With a US$20 registration fee per group, the competition is winner takes all, and the champs will walk away with a cool US$200.
The deadline to register is July 30 and the showcase will light up the stage between September 24 and 27 as part of Intwasa’s annual celebration of arts, culture, and raw talent.
Festival director Raisedon Baya said the competition forms part of a bigger vision to give young creatives a stage.
“This is about supporting innovative performances and giving emerging artists the confidence and exposure to grow,” said Baya, referencing the “Become a Friend of Intwasa” fundraising drive aiming to raise US$1 000 from 50 supporters.
Poetry joins music, dance, literature, and workshops in this year’s cultural mix, with high school pupils now officially part of the Intwasa vibe.
