How will spring end in Portland as rain approaches?

0

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Gear up for soggy weather as the summer season in Portland kicks off on Friday.

Before the rain arrives, Portland area temperatures will warm into the mid 70s Thursday. A mix of clouds will become more widespread late in the day. That will give way to Friday's cooler and rainy weather across western Oregon and southwest Washington.

Rain accumulation will near a half inch to three quarters of an inch from Friday to Saturday around Portland. Friday's rain potential also comes with a non-severe thunderstorm chance with lightning, thunder, wind, and small hail all possible. The isolated thunderstorm chance stretches from the coast to the Cascades Friday.

Western Oregon, southwest Washington sees a slim chance for thunderstorms Friday, June 20, 2025

The combination of cooler and more available moisture will help drop snow levels to nearly 4,500' to 5,000'. A few scattered snow showers has the chance to leave behind a dusting to a few inches of new snow to some of Oregon's highest volcanic peaks.

Summer begins Friday, June 20, 2025 where temperatures will sit nearly 10 to 20-degrees below average for the middle of June. The summer heat doesn't stay far for long.
