Asian shares are mixed and oil prices rise as escalating Iran-Israel crisis hits Wall Street

Asian shares are mixed and oil prices have advanced after the escalation of conflict in the Middle East hit Wall Street. Japan reported that its exports fell in May as the auto industry was hit by President Donald Trump's higher tariffs. On Tuesday, U.S. stocks slumped under the weight of a jump for the price of oil and signals of intensifying warfare between Israel and Iran. Worse than expected U.S. retail sales also helped pull the S&P 500 down 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.7%,and the Nasdaq composite sank 0.9%. Treasury yields also fell. Crude oil prices rose more than 4% and extended those gains early Wednesday.
