Re: Midlands Rail Hub
TandySlipped under the radar a bit this but £1.75bn of funding has been approved in the spending review. Some highlights of the project and how they might benefit Blues are:
- More platforms and lengthening of existing platforms at Moor Street station.
- Both Bordesley chords will be built meaning the southern section Cross City line will be connected to Moor St and be a 30 second walk away from HS2 at Curzon St (and therefore the tram to the Sports Quarter).
- Trains from the East Midlands will also be rerouted to Moor St rather than New St too, this with some Cross City south trains moving out of New St means a sizable freeing up of capacity, possibly allowing more services to Adderley Park from New St
- To build the new chords Bordesley Station will have to be demolished. We already knew of the intention to close it.
- Possibility of a new station on this new section of the Cross City line to the west of the Wheels site at a latter date, around Garrison Lane or where St Andrews is now. (this is entirely speculation on my part, but I think it's a possibility with the St Andrews site being given up for housing).
Great news again for the city and region. Have timelines been given? As this feels like the fourth or fifth time the chords been allocated funding.
