Woman remanded in custody for inciting public violence

A 27-YEAR-OLD Kadoma woman will regret the day she used the WhatsApp messaging social media platform to incite public violence.

Vernah Madhlangove was arraigned before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court facing charges of incitement to commit public violence.

According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Madhlangove used the WhatsApp application to incite public violence from May 24 to 28 on a WhatsApp group named Kadoma Misasa using her grey Tecno (Pop 6 Go) smartphone.

She is alleged to have encouraged the WhatsApp group members to stage an illegal demonstration against the Government.

The messages read: “We should assault whoever remains in the house.”

The messages, which were sent by the accused person, were inciting members of the public to demonstrate against the Government of Zimbabwe on May 29 2025.

Madhlangove was denied bail and remanded in custody to June 12.

NPAZ has since encouraged members of the public to desist from inciting violence.
