Backyard Musicfest 2025 brings EDM, wrestlers and more to north Topeka
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka's Backyard Musicfest 2025 brings local artists from Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City and others from around the country all together in the Woodshed Event Center's backyard.
27 News stopped by Musicfest while crews were hard at work setting up the morning of Friday, May 30 for an inside look into what attendees can expect. The next two days will feature artists performing country, rock and roll, EDM and hip-hop. Wrestlers will even make up part of the lineup.
“Topeka doesn’t get a lot of the variety that we’re doing," said Entertainment Director Ronald Ruiz. "Like the EDM, this is the only EDM show that happens in Topeka the whole year. We have laser lights, incredible lighting, incredible sound and we’ve got a production company that comes in from Kansas City just to produce the show for us.”
Some of that equipment may sound familiar to attendees, literally. A total of $40,000 worth of speakers were brought over from Arrowhead Stadium just for this event.
With such a diverse setlist, arts and crafts vendors spread throughout the area and 12 different food trucks to try out - there's a little something for everyone.
“Even though there’s different stages, a lot of us in the music industry know each other," said Stage Director Jayden Young. "At the end of the night it starts to just blend a lot, so I think it’s really cool. If you’re new to festivals at all, this is literally the perfect one. It’s kind of just a really large two day show. I think the barrier to entry is as low as it’s ever been probably.”
Like other musical festivals there's an option to stick around the area throughout the two-day show. 27 News caught up with a camper ahead of his third year attending the Topeka Musicfest.
“If you’re camping out you get to grill with all the buddies, that’s always a plus," said festival camper Joseph Benton. "You’re five feet away from all the action, you don’t have to miss out on anything. The community is tight knit and everybody is very accepting.”
If you don't want to miss out on anything, you can campout for the weekend for $20 or pickup your ticket at the door for $25. For those 12-years-old and under, admission is free.
