US stocks drift as S&P 500 flirts with its first drop in 7 days
U.S. stock indexes are drifting as momentum slows for Wall Street after it rallied from a deep hole nearly all the way back to its all-time high set earlier this year. The S&P 500 fell 0.4% Tuesday and may be set for its first drop in seven days. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 104 points, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.5%. Treasury yields inched higher in the bond market, while the value of the U.S. dollar was relatively stable against other currencies. Stock indexes abroad mostly rose following cuts to interest rates by central banks in China and in Australia.
