Teenage boy dies after getting into difficulty in River Wyre, Lancashire
A 15-year-old boy is dead after getting into difficulty while swimming in the River Wyre.
Around 2.30 pm on Saturday, police were called to the River Wyre, near the Garstang Cricket Club, and found a teenage boy being given CPR.
Lancashire Police said the boy was lying on the riverbank and being tended to by members of the public.
‘He was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he very sadly died yesterday,’ they added.
‘Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.’
There are several warning signs near the portion of the river where the boy was found, an eyewitness told the BBC.
‘The area was quickly cordoned off and I saw a police officer interviewing a tearful young girl among a group of backpackers,’ local Nick Hill said.
