Potential Steam Deck prototype spotted in the wilds of eBay with AMD Picasso APU—and an asking price of $3,000
Update 11 April, 2025: Valve may have at one point been noodling with a much older AMD chip for the Steam Deck. An alleged prototype of the handheld recently went up on eBay, and images of the original listing captured by Notebookcheck display the device's BIOS.These images reveal the early handheld's unnamed AMD APU contains Picasso silicon, that dates back to at least 2019. This Ryzen 3000-era bit of kit likely enjoys up to four enabled Zen+ cores, and Vega (GCN 5.0) based graphics. The Steam Deck we know and love finally debuted in 2022, enjoying tech specs that comfortably leave this alleged prototype in the dust.Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais posted on X back in 2022 about a very similar looking prototype Steam Deck which he also describes as utilising a Picasso APU.
