60 Minutes star launches blistering on-air attack on bosses for bending to Trump
60 Minutes anchor Scott Pelley accused the show's parent company, Paramount, of interfering with their editorial process in a blistering on-air attack Sunday evening.
“Our parent company, Paramount, is trying to complete a merger. The Trump administration must approve it. Paramount began to supervise our content in new ways,” Pelley said in ‘The Last Minute’ segment of the show.
The accusation comes in the wake of 60 Minutes Executive Producer Bill Owens leaving the show.
Pelley went on to note, “None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt he lost the independence that honest journalism requires.”
Owens announced his resignation from the program on Tuesday last week.
He said that it had “become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it.”
The long-time CBS producer also claimed the changes came from upper-company ranks who were interfering in his editorial process.
Owens became the Executive Producer of the show in 2019.

Paramount is currently trying to merge with entertainment company Skydance Media. The Trump administration’s approval is needed to finalize it.
Another 60 Minutes’ correspondent, Lesley Stahl, told Variety last week she was “made aware of interference in our news processes and calling into question our judgment.”
Currently, President Donald Trump has sued the outlet for airing an edited version of an interview of then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The $20 billion defamation lawsuit claims 60 Minutes edited Harris’ answer to a question on Israel to make her look better.
CBS and Owens have denied the claim.
Paramount has sought to settle the case, in large part to get the federal approval it needs to complete the merger with Skydance.
Representatives at Paramount did not immediately respond to multiple outlets’ requests for comment.
