Albany County buys former Cohoes sport complex
COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Office of the Albany County Executive has officially purchased a former Cohoes sports complex. The county announced on Friday that it closed on the sale of the former Gateway Sports Complex on Remsen Street.
The county bought the property with over $1.8 million in NY SWIMS grant funding, which also covered the cost of renovations. The Albany County Parks and Recreation Department will run the complex's programs, which will be announced soon.
The Albany County Legislature approved the purchase with a unanimous vote last March. At the time of the vote, the county said it would turn the space into a county-owned aquatic and fitness center.
The former Gateway Sports Complex ended its pool and fitness center program in August 2023. Before the Gateway Sports Complex, the property was home to the Cohoes Community Center, which closed due to financial hardships in 2018.
