Music legend, 77, rushed to hospital after backstage medical emergency and cancelling show
CARLOS Santana has been rushed to hospital after suffering a backstage medical emergency, forcing him to cancel his show.
Music legend Carlos, 77, received medical attention in Texas when he suffered a medical issue linked to dehydration shortly before the San Antonio concert.
His manager, Michael Vrionis, later addressed the incident in a statement, saying: “It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight’s show in San Antonio has been postponed.
“Mr. Santana was at the venue (Majestic Theatre) preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration.
“Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”
Michael reassured fans that the guitarist is “doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon as well as continuing his US Tour”.
A rescheduled date for the show is expected to be confirmed shortly.
This isn’t the first time Carlos has faced health-related delays.
Back in January, he had to postpone part of his Las Vegas run at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay after injuring himself in a fall at home in Hawaii.
And, in July 2022, he collapsed on stage in the middle of a Michigan concert.
A video posted to Twitter from a concertgoer showed Carlos being assisted off stage after taking a fall.
He had been performing at the Pine Knob Music Festival in the Michigan city as part of his Earth, Wind and Fire tour when he took a fall.
It was later reported that the then-74-year-old was “being treated by EMS after a ‘serious medical emergency’ at #pineknob – audience asked to leave – and pray”.
His rep tlater old People that the musician was “overtaken by heat exhaustion and dehydration”, but is “doing well” after being taken to McLaren Clarkston for observation.
This incident came seven months after he reported having suffered health complications.
The previous December, Carlos had an “unscheduled heart procedure” which forced him to cancel several of his Las Vegas shows.
In a 2021 Twitter video, he told fans: “There have been rumors flying around here and there about this and that, so I’m here to just crystalize and make it clear.”
“Last Saturday, I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy [Blackman], to take me to the hospital because I had this thing happening in my chest.
“So when we went there, we found out that I needed to take care of it. So I am.”
“I’m going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure I replenish, and I rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I will play the way I’m used to and give you 150 percent,” Santana added.
Following the incident, he canceled seven of his shows.
How did Carlos Santana get his start in the industry?
Carlos is an American guitarist who rose to prominence with his band Santana in the late 1960s and early 1970s, pioneering the synthesis of rock ‘n’ roll and Latin American jazz.
His music’s sound comprised his lyrical, blues-based lines against Latin American and African rhythms played on percussion instruments, such as timbales and congas, that aren’t commonly heard in rock.
In the late 1990s, he saw a rebirth of popularity and critical praise.
Carlos’s net worth is estimated to be $120million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
The musician also has several published books, including his 2014 memoir The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light.
