Major shipping nations have agreed to a minimum $100 tax per tonne of CO2 emissions from ships, effective by 2028, marking the first global greenhouse gas tax. The agreement, reached within the International Maritime Organisation, aims to incentivize cleaner fuels and reduce shipping emissions, which account for about 3% of global emissions.
