Popular Rapper Dead at 39 After Freak Accident While Fleeing From Police
Popular Atlanta rapper Young Scooter reportedly died on the same day as his 39th birthday after an accident while fleeing police.
Officers responded to a 911 call call over “a dispute with shots fired and a female being dragged back into the residence,” according to People. Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, allegedly attempted to flee police, but suffered an injury to his leg during the chase when he attempted to escape over a fence.
He was transported to Grady Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police have not yet shared the identity of the deceased, though, 11 Alive, Variety and Atlanta News First and now People have all reported Young Scooter as the deceased.
“When officers arrived a male initially opened the door [then] closed the door in the officers’ faces without communicating," police said, via People. The officers then “established a perimeter,” during which time two men “fled” the premises. One male returned to the home and the other “jumped two fences” while fleeing.
“When officers located him on the other side of the fence, he appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg. Officers rendered aid and he was transported to Grady Hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” the statement from police continued.
Scooter’s family confirmed his death in the incident, Atlanta News First reported, though an official cause of death has not been revealed.
Waka Flocka, who Scooter signed in 2013, appeared to pay tribute to the late rapper on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Street, you had me crying before my show …you the backbone … dama brada.”
