George Foreman Grill: How Successful Was the Famed Cookware?
George Foreman passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 76, as confirmed by his family on his Instagram page. While the family has not released a cause of death, The New York Times states the that Foreman passed away in a hospital in Houston, Texas.
George Foreman rose to fame as a heavyweight world champion and Olympic gold medalist, but many also know of him for his popular George Foreman Grill.
The grill, which was first launched in 1994, was a portable indoor grill that quickly made the boxing star a household name, even though he already was one. The tagline for the grill was Foreman stating, "It's so good, I put my name on it." They also described it as a "smokeless grill," because the units used electricity, not charcoal or fire, for cooking.
So, how profitable were these grills? Very. According to Spectrum Brands, the grill's parent company, more than 100 million George Foreman grills have been sold to date, looking at sales worldwide. According to reports, Foreman signed over naming rights for the grill in perpetuity in 1999, for an impressive $137 million.
Even before his death, the George Foreman Grill was a bestseller on Amazon, even to this date. It's safe to believe the grill will sell even more units in the coming weeks, as people mourn the death of Foreman.
The 60-square-inch electric grill is created to cook four servings of meat at once, such as chicken breasts or hamburger patties, and is also able to use as a panini press. George Foreman grills also feature dual-sided grilling plates and a non-stick coating, as well as dishwasher safe removable plates.
