Report: Arizona State Retains Bobby Hurley

Good news for the Blue Devil great

A bit of good news for Duke fans as Blue Devil legend Bobby Hurley will retain his job at Arizona State.

Hurley came into the season with a great recruiting class and high hopes, but injuries really decimated his Sun Devils.

In ASU’s first season in the Big 12, Hurley saw injuries to star freshmen Jayden Quaintance and Joson Sanon among several others. Arizona State had over 50 missed games by players and with the hypercompetitive Big 12, that was a bridge too far.

Hurley also booted leading scorer BJ Freeman off the squad in February.

He had some comments about the season after a loss against Kansas State:

“We had full commitment from ASU… we were supported, and we were able to go get elite guys in the portal. We just have to do a better job of having more options in case something happens with [important players].

“I didn’t do the best job, but ASU is not the problem whatsoever. They really backed us to go out and put together a team that should have been an NCAA Tournament team. But we did not get the job done in that regard.”

As of now, Hurley has one year left on his contract and no extension, so next year is sort of make or break for him. He seems to genuinely like Tempe and ASU, so we hope things go well next season.
