Rangers fan tragically dies in Turkey after road traffic accident before Fenerbahce clash
A RANGERS fan has died in a road traffic accident in Istanbul, the club has confirmed.
The supporter had travelled over to Turkey with thousands of his fellow fans to watch tonight’s big Europa League showdown against Fenerbahce.
But the fan tragically passed away during the night after being rushed to hospital following the accident.
Rangers announced the devastating news via a statement on social media this morning.
The club wrote: “We are devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters in a road traffic accident overnight in Istanbul.
“The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“We are remaining in constant contact with both the Turkish and British authorities over this tragic incident.”
Rangers’ Europa League rivals Fenerbahce took to social media to offer their condolences to the supporter’s family and friends.
They wrote: “We extend our deepest condolences to Rangers FC and the entire Rangers community
“We are deeply saddened to receive the heartbreaking news that a Rangers FC supporter, who traveled to Istanbul to support his team in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 against our club Fenerbahçe, has tragically lost his life in a traffic accident.
“Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences go out to his family, Rangers FC, and their community.”
Heartbreaking tributes poured in from fellow Gers fans.
One said; “Awful news, my condolences to the supporters loved ones at this time.”
Another commented: “Terrible news – RIP.”
Many Fenerbahce fans also paid their respects on social media.
Someone wrote: “We are sorry. We share your pain. Rest in peace.”
Another emotional fan said: “Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences go out to his family, Rangers FC, and their community. May he rest in peace.”
A third commented: “As a Fenerbahce fan, I am very sad. My condolences to his relatives.”
