Judge rules Trump's firing of federal workforce watchdog was illegal
Last month, a government official fired by President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit fighting his termination. On Saturday, a judge ruled that firing was illegal.
Hampton Dellinger, a government official appointed by President Joe Biden, argued that Trump wrongfully terminated him as part of his broader purge of federal employees.
Dellinger is the Special Counsel of the U.S. Office of Special Counsel.

Over the weekend, Josh Gerstein, Senior Legal Affairs reporter for Politico, announced that Judge Amy Berman Jackson made the "narrow" ruling in Dellinger's favor.
Politico's Kyle Cheney also noted, "Jackson rules that it is constitutional for the Office of Special Counsel to assert independence from the President."
"He has legitimate authority to act free of removal by the President without cause, she rules," according to the reporter.
