MSHP investigating deadly shooting involving KCPD officer in the Northland
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is investigating a shooting Thursday night involving a Kansas City police officer in the Northland.
The incident was reported just before 9 p.m. in the area of NW 70th Terrace and N. Robinhood Lane.
MSHP confirmed the 57-year-old male suspect involved in the incident is deceased. He is not being identified at this time.
One officer was reported to have minor injuries.
KCPD officers were first called just after 5:30 p.m. for a domestic assault in the area. MSHP said the assault victim left the location and met officers at another location, where she was evaluated and taken to the hospital.
After officers interviewed the victim, MSHP said officers determined that charges existed and returned to the location of the assault on Robinhood Lane to arrest the suspect.
Officers were able to contact the suspect at the residence at which time the suspect left the residence armed with a large knife, according to MSHP.
MSHP reports the suspect advanced towards the KCPD officers at which time one of the officers fired his weapon and struck the suspect.
MSHP is continuing to investigate what led up to the shooting.
