Sports Briefs: San Domenico’s Swain opens season with no-hitter
Oliver Swain picked up where he left off last year on the mound for San Domenico with a no-hitter in Thursday’s 14-0 road victory over Richmond to open the baseball season. Swain struck out 14 batters.
At the plate, Swain had one hit and scored three times. Oliver Bennett accounted for five San Domenico runs as he scored three times and drove in two while he went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a triple. Will Rothstein, Sam Tavano and Matilda Hull each had three RBIs. San Domenico (1-0) is scheduled to play Summerfield Waldorf in Sonoma on Friday.
- SiEon Davis had a solid day at the plate as Terra Linda powered its way to a 7-2 nonleague win over St. Vincent in Petaluma on Thursday. Davis doubled, scored three runs and had an RBI. Brody Daganais was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, while Nate Combrink was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Oliver Doxon tripled and drove in two runs. Senior Carson Landies homered for the Mustangs.
Prep softball
Paige Murphy pitched a complete-game three-hitter as Archie Williams opened the season with a 3-1 win against Petaluma.
Murphy struck out nine and allowed one earned run to earn the win. Parker Conrad, Lila James,. and Kennedy Dunsing all had two hits apiece batting 2-4, respectively.
- San Rafael scored nine runs in the first and six more in the third to mercy rule Santa Rosa 16-3 in the Bulldogs’ season opener. Cal-bound shortstop Sophia Everett had three hits and four RBIs to lead the way. Cherise Castagne had a hit, three RBIs, and drew three walks. San Rafael drew 14 walks as a team. Thomara Drummer pitched two innings of relief, striking out five.
College baseball
Kisho Li Kircher doubled and homered as College of Marin pounded out an 11-3 home victory over Yuba on Thursday.
Kircher hit a three-run double to get things rolling in the first inning as the Mariners (9-7-1) scored four runs. He added a two-run homer in the in the sixth inning. Derek Bartram was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Caden Sta Maria drove in two runs on a 1-for-2 day.
Anthony Del Prete went five innings on the mound with three strikeouts and four hits to get the win.
Boys tennis
Redwood continued its early season roll with Thursday’s 7-0 victory over Terra Linda. Cal Fazal, Will Greenwald and Lukas Berger gave the Giants wins at the top three singles slots, while Hudson Brod fought to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against the Trojans’ Rupert Atkains.
Boys golf
Marin Catholic edged defending MCAL champion Tam, 185-187, at Mill Valley Golf Club on Thursday. Abe Willard led the Red-tailed Hawks with a 33 to share medalist honors with the Wildcats’ Theo Anderson. Marin Catholic’s JP France shot a 36 and Rhys Jones shot a 37, matched by Tam’s Shade Murray (36) and Ben Friedman (37). Carson Byers gave Marin Catholic the win with a 38.
- Yousef Abueida and Calvin Gundee carded matching 42s at the Meadow Club on Friday as Archie Williams beat San Rafael, 227-241. The Bulldogs’ Kai Payne earned medalist honors with a 36.
Women’s basketball
Branson School grad Hannah Golan grabbed six points and five rebounds in 18 minutes during Point Loma’s 90-67 victory over Menlo on Thursday. The Sea Lions (22-5,17-2 PacWest) wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Westmont before turning their attention to the PacWest Championships, hosted by Dominican University, March 6-8.
Prep cheerleading
San Rafael High School won the 2025 United Spirit Association (USA) Varsity Coed Advanced Nontumbling National championship in Anaheim, recently. The win is the program’s eighth national championship. The squad features Arianna Mejia, Ashley Signor, Ashlyn Ochoa, Eduardo Reyes, Emily Cardenas, Jackelyn Gonzalez, Katie Hernandez, Liliana Diaz, Madison Loped, Martha Gomez, Mia Reyes, Pamela Santa Rosa, Ruby Lacerda, Ryan Wolfe, Vivienne Reyes and Vy Tran.
