'Disaster in the making for the Republican party': MSNBC analyst reacts to budget move
A report on MSNBC that Republican lawmakers are now planning to duck appearing at town halls after several House lawmakers ran into a buzzsaw of angry constituents furious over cuts being made by Elon Musk's DOGE led one analyst to claim it signals a bad turn for the GOP.
With MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski reading from an NBC report that stated, "The town halls, and the rash of negative headlines, have been the first bit of public blowback for members who face voters next year. And the new reluctance to hold them indicates there are bubbling concerns about the impact the cuts could have on the GOP's chances of holding its thin majority in the House next year," regular panelist Mike Barnicle said GOP lawmakers are headed for a world of hurt.

Brzezinski prompted Barnicle by pointing out the town halls serve a purpose by allowing lawmakers to get "feedback" from voters.
He then replied, "You know, the furor at the town halls over the weekend with Republican congressman? That's a window of opportunity for the Democrats. The Democrats' best hope is what is going on right now, today in Washington, D.C."
"I was stunned yesterday talking to a member of the Ways and Means Committee who told me that 20% of the revenue that goes into the United States Treasury goes to pay off debt service," he continued. "The Republicans are talking now about perhaps cutting Medicare benefits, Medicaid benefits, some Social Security benefits, some VA benefits, a lot of benefits that people are used to getting and have been used to getting. for years, decades actually will now be cut in favor of a $4.5 trillion tax cut that they will propose."
"That will largely go to billionaires and millionaires in large corporations," he added. "The corporate tax rate will be lowered, perhaps even more than it was lowered. This is a disaster in the making for the Republican party."
