Critically injured South African soldiers are evacuated from Congo amid rebel offensive
South Africa's armed forces say a group of soldiers critically injured in fighting in eastern Congo a month ago have been evacuated by the United Nations. A spokesperson said Tuesday they had been receiving treatment in a hospital in the rebel-controlled Congolese city of Goma. The spokesperson didn't say how many soldiers are returning. Another group of South African soldiers is due to return home later this week. A continuing offensive by Rwanda-backed rebels in Congo’s mineral-rich east has alarmed some in the international community. South Africa leads a southern African peacekeeping force in Congo.
