Liam Payne's Friend & 2 Others Have Charges Dropped Amid Investigation Into Singer's Passing

Three individuals who faced charges related to Liam Payne‘s tragic death, including his friend Roger Nores, have had them dropped.

The One Direction singer passed away at the age of 31 in October 2024 while vacationing in Argentina. Five people were charged following an investigation in December.

The list included four members of the hotel staff where he was staying. Two of them were charged with manslaughter while others were accused of supplying Liam with drugs.

Roger was charged with negligent homicide.

On Thursday (February 20), Rolling Stone reported that Roger and the two employees facing manslaughter charges were acquitted by judges in Argentina’s Court of Appeals.

It was decided that Roger couldn’t have stopped Liam‘s passing.

“It is possible that, if he had stayed in his company at all times, [Payne] would not have obtained the drugs and alcohol in the quantities necessary for the state of intoxication he exhibited at the time of his death,” they wrote in a ruling. “But it cannot be ruled out that, even if he had taken those extreme precautions … that [Payne] would have managed to obtain the substances anyway, as is common among addicts, even when they are under the loving care of their family.”

The ruling continued, reading, “Despite accusing Nores of failing to communicate and raise alarms with the victim’s family, they remained silent about the email through which the accused had expressed his concerns and warned that he would not be able to look after Payne’s health.”

Charges still remain against Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz, who are currently in prison.

Liam‘s estate does have the ability to appeal the ruling, but it is not clear if they will take those steps.

“Glad this is finally over,” Roger said in a statement shared with the outlet. “I’m happy I’m now going to be able to travel to the U.K. and say goodbye to my friend.”

Earlier this year, Roger sued Liam‘s father for defamation.
