After yawning your way out of bed, it's clear a poor night’s sleep influences nearly every aspect of your day. The once niche field of sleep tech—now projected to reach $113 billion globally by 2033—has exploded, and there are some real benefits to turning your bedroom into a personal hibernation lab.

While most smartwatches offer some degree of sleep tracking, the gear intentionally designed to track your body at night, or put you in the right state for sleep, offers insight that you, and your doctor, can use to make adjustments. Part of the art of improving sleep hygiene starts with your environment; maybe you need a clock to encourage a sleep routine or a bed that stays at your exacting temperature preferences.

If you’re getting a poor night’s sleep, here's the greatest sleep tech we tested as part of the Men's Journal's 2025 Tech Awards

Looking for other tech to enhance your life? Revamp your home theater with the hottest new speakers and TVs or projectors; upgrade your everyday carry essentials with a new camera, earbuds, or headphones; modernize your space with the smart home devices; and prepare for the unexpected with the most dependable power stations.

Best Sleep Tech Device Overall: Eight Sleep Pod 4

Why I Chose It

This three-part system includes a water-filled cover to slip over your existing mattress, a powered base to adjust positioning, and a Dell-looking hub that you plug in near the bed. Once you pick a comfortable sleeping temperature, from 55 to 110 degrees, the hub, which is essentially a heat pump, adjusts the water temperature flowing through the tubing in the cover. It creates an ideal sleeping environment—one you can split into two zones for a partner. The base, which slips between the mattress and box spring, adjusts automatically to lift your head if it detects snoring. You can also just tap it to elevate the head if you want to catch up on reading or watch Landman in bed.

The data Eight collects is extensive and stored in an easy-to-use app, where you can see variables like temperature, sleep stages, breath and heart rate. Each morning you’ll see an overall sleep fitness score and can see progression throughout the week. The app’s Autopilot feature can take over and make adjustments to things like temperature based on your sleep history in an effort to boost REM sleep.

Best Smart Bed: Sleep Number Climate Cool With Smart Base

Why I Chose It

Built from the ground up around the proprietary mattress, Sleep Number uses an app to cool the bed through a layer under the mattress that mechanically yanks heat away from you while sleeping that works in conjunction with ceramic gel closer to the skin. It's all about physics: Your body’s heat moves toward the cold, dense gel. Climate Cool, unlike other options from the brand, is aimed directly at hot sleepers, chilling you down to about 15 degrees faster than other options on the market. But, being a Sleep Number, you can adjust your firmness level independently of your partner.

Comfort aside, Climate Cool also tracks your sleep metrics like breathing rate, movement, and when you get in and out of bed. Pair the mattress with a Smart Base and it not only makes bedtime reading and iPad streaming more comfortable, but it also adjusts each side of the bed independently, raising your partner’s head if it detects snoring.

Best Alarm Clock: Hatch Restore 3

Why I Chose It

If you’re ready to start a consistent routine that launches your day on the right foot or helps bring it to a close, Restore 3 functions as your nightstand’s command central. Available in three earth-toned colors, each with a mesh face, the alarm doubles as a sound machine and alarm. It displays the time and a color light show to gently rouse you awake. An LED bar about halfway up increases in intensity as it nears your set wake time, syncing with your circadian rhythm to make mornings a bit easier. Set up nighttime routines to calm things down with soothing lights and sounds. Simple-to-use buttons on top let you toggle between features, including turning it into a reading lamp. While you can subscribe for a wider range of sleep sounds, out of the box Restore 3 offers about 20 alarm noises to wake up to, plus a dozen more white noises (think fan sounds).

Best Eye Mask: Therabody SleepMask

Why I Chose It

You either love a sleep mask or don't, but everyone could stand a bit more relaxation. Therabody SleepMask goes beyond just blocking out light, with a switch on top that picks between three vibration patterns, each with two intensities, and a timer that runs for 15 minutes. You could pair this with a library of white noises on Therabody’s app, too. Mask newbies and veterans alike will appreciate the deep-eye cups that leave enough room for blinking. While a 15-minute respite is a nice break at any point in the day, the eye mask is aimed at either developing a routine before you go to bed, or to wear while sleeping

Best Weighted Blanket: Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket

Why I Chose It

This unassuming chunky blanket comes in five colors and four weights, from 10 to 25 pounds. Unlike some blankets that can look like they belong in a sleep clinic, the knitted Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket feels right at home slung over a couch or a chair just about anywhere. The size range starts at 40x64 inches and scales up. You pick the size by finding the version that's equivalent to about 10 percent of your body weight. The weave also prevents you from getting too hot.

Best Sound Machine: Yogasleep Duet

A white noise app might work in a pinch while you’re traveling, but a dedicated unit at home can help foster a practical sleeping routine. Set the coffee mug-sized speaker on your nightstand and the top-mounted simple dashboard lets you click through 30 sounds without using a phone. Pick from a range of white to brown noises, a classic fan, and nature sounds, with the ability to pick a range of timers. The handful of included musical lullabies—think ethereal piano or chimes—is a nice option if kids will use it. But don’t put your phone away just yet: The fabric-covered speaker can connect through Bluetooth so you can stream playlists or other things that might put you to sleep—like a golf podcast.

Best Sleep Tech Earbuds: Anker Sleep Soundcore Sleep A20

Why I Chose It

Designing earbuds comfortable enough to sleep all night in is a challenge, but making a pair that side sleepers can tolerate is next to impossible. The silicone, mushroom tip on Anker Sleep Soundcore Sleep A20 creates an excellent seal in your ear and also locks in place with a simple twist. Even without any content streaming, it helps block noise. The earbuds can stream up to 80 hours on sleep mode, or 55 hours if you want to stream from your phone, before needing a recharge. Soundcore’s app lets you customize sleep noises so you can mix a washing machine with crickets and monks humming. The charging case, while not wireless compatible, does make it easy to slip these into your bag to get some quality sack time on the road, too.

Best Wearable Sleep Tracker: Oura Ring 4

Why I Chose It

The data wearables aggregate gets better the more often you wear them, and Oura has perfected the art of seamless fitness tracking. Its comfortable titanium ring feels fantastic and comes in six finishes. The battery lasts for about a week between charges, which is easy to do with a dock that sits on your nightstand. Next to the skin, Oura uses four sensors to track blood oxygen levels, heart rate, respiration, movement, and temperature. All that data is sent to your phone alongside an evaluation of sleep quality, duration in deep sleep, and breathing disturbances. If you’ve ever felt guilty about rolling over and going back to bed, Oura might just tell you to do that depending on your sleep score. The membership, which gets you the most from the tracker costs about $70 a year.

Best Pad Sleep Tracker: Withings Sleep

Why I Chose It

There are plenty of ways to weave sleep tracking into your bedroom—but this mattress pad, which is about the thickness of a nickel—is arguably the easiest. Place it between your mattress and box spring about even with your chest. Within the pad is a pneumatic sensor that tracks your breathing rate and body movements while a microphone listens for snoring and other breathing disturbances. The app tracks sleep duration, cycles, and more to provide a basic sleep score. Through the app, you can pair other smart devices to create a scene, like turning the bathroom light on when you get out of bed.

Best Sleep Tech App: Calm

Why I Chose It

If you’re already using your smartphone to help fall asleep, Calm is the one app that can help by adding music, soundscapes, and Sleep Stories narrated by celebs like Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba. Sleep Meditations help guide you through developing a new routine before bed to boot. The reason it's our No.1 is Calm can help way before bed: You can put on your earbuds and listen to breath work exercises during your commute or practice grounding exercises when you wake up in the morning.

Best Sleep Aid: Somnee Smart Sleep Headband

Why I Chose It

Part of a sleep routine, Somnee is a headband you wear for about 15 minutes before going to bed. A pair of electrodes rests on your forehead where the system’s medical-grade electroencephalogram (EEG) goes to work tracking your brain’s activity. From there, Somnee uses transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) to stimulate your brain and, ever so mildly, set it down the path to deeper sleep. The app records a sleep score and a journal to log notes, for those who want to be a more active participant in a good night's sleep.

Best Smart Pillow: 10 Minds Motion Pillow

Why I Chose It

Snoring is one of the most common ways to disrupt not only your sleep, but also others in the house. The Motion Pillow is a two-part system that sort of works like an airbag for snoring. The base rests on your nightstand and learns what your snoring sounds like. Once it detects the lumber cutting has begun, it triggers the pillow to inflate air chambers that gently rotate your head from side to side and align it to reduce snoring. Sensors in the pillow also provide basic sleep tracking like duration of sleep and how much time spent snoring.

What to Look for in the Best Sleep Tech

When it comes to sleep tech, I focus mostly on the usefulness of the data and how easy it is to integrate the device into a sleep routine. Some users want to nerd out on details like breath rate and how much time they spent sleeping on their left side versus the right, while others simply want to wake up and read an overall sleep score, along with insight on how to get a better night’s rest.

Whichever camp you live in, the technology has to be easy to weave into your lifestyle, like a tracking pad that slips under your mattress so you’re not wearing anything. For this roundup, we focused on technology that fits into the way you sleep at night or products that are impactful enough that it might be worth starting a new nighttime routine.
