George Clooney on Trump win: 'What am I supposed to do, storm the ... Capitol?'

Actor George Clooney seemingly invoked the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol when discussing his reaction to President Trump's election victory.

"What am I supposed to do? You know, storm the ... Capitol?" Clooney told "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening, likely referring to the incident when a mob of Trump's supporters broke into the Capitol in an attempt to prevent lawmakers from certifying former President Biden's 2020 victory.

"It didn't work out. That's what happens," he added later.

Trump has pardoned hundreds of rioters who were charged for their role in the insurrection.

Clooney openly backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid against Trump. The "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" star was one of the loudest voices calling for Biden to step aside after a disastrous debate performance raised concerns about his ability to serve another four years in the White House.

He acknowledged Tuesday that you can't always win.

“I have a son who plays in chess tournaments,” Clooney told Colbert. “Loves chess. He's 7 years old, playing a lot of older kids, and he's not winning all the time, as you can imagine, and he gets upset."

"And I said, ‘Listen, you shake the guy's hand. You say, ‘Good game. I'll get you next time.’ And that's kind of how — you gotta live by those rules.”

Trump has been critical of the actor in the past. In July, he pressed Clooney to "go back to television" and stay out of politics. The star replied in September, saying he would take the advice if Trump also does.

“He’s a big fan of mine,” Clooney told late night host Jimmy Kimmel at the time. “That’s a trade-off I’d do.”
