Returning players inspire Spurs to victory

Seeing James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario‘s names in the starting lineup gave every Spurs fan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a huge boost ahead of kick-off.

Not only are they two key players for Ange Postecoglou‘s side, but they are also both experienced leaders, who take responsibility rather than shy away from pressure.

Both the Englishman and the Italian delivered excellent displays, with the midfielder getting the game’s solitary goal and the goalkeeper making some crucial interventions at the other end of the pitch to help the home side emerge with a 1-0 win.

Dejan Kulusevski makes an admission about Guglielmo Vicario

Kulusevski admitted that having the Tottenham number one back in the side served as a huge boost to the whole squad, explaining that the 28-year-old is a very influential figure in the dressing room.

The Swede admitted that the former Empoli man’s presence has been sorely missed over the last three months, given what he brings to the side both on and off the pitch.

Speaking after Tottenham‘s win over Man Utd, the 24-year-old told The Standard: “We wanted to score more of course but it was great to have Maddison back also. I’m a huge fan of Vicario. Like a huge, huge fan. His energy is unmatched, he is fantastic.

“I told him, ‘When you come back the whole stadium needs to feel it’. That’s what he does. He’s an unbelievable goalkeeper. He made a couple of saves and, so with him back, it’s a big, big player.

“He’s a professional, he’s in the gym every day. He’s every day happy, he wants to get better and he’s Italian! So I have a great bond with him and it was good to have him back. The last game he played was the 4-0 [win] at Man City, so we missed him a lot.”

Dejan Kulusevski says Spurs can take huge confidence

Some people will be tempted to downplay the significance of Tottenham‘s win on Sunday, given that it came against a struggling United side, who were also decimated by injuries.

However, Kulusevski insists that the Red Devils have plenty of quality in their ranks and suggested that Tottenham can take huge confidence from the fact that they have beaten them three times so far this campaign.

He added: “We beat them three times and played very good games against them, but they are still a very good team and it’s never easy to beat United, but maybe we’ll see them [in the Europa League] in a couple of months.

“Nothing is better than winning, it’s the most important thing because it gives you energy, it gives you belief and in football you need those things.”
