BBC brings back legendary TV series to screens after 15 years off air
BBC viewers will be able to watch new series of a ‘childhood classic’ as its been confirmed to be returning after 15 years off air.
The BBC TV series Raven, which aired on CBBC until 2010, has been confirmed by the broadcaster to be making its return.
The series, starring James Mackenzie as warlord Raven, ran from 2002 until 2010 when it was axed.
The series was a CBBC hit and saw youngsters compete as warriors in challenges, all aiming to beat evil sorcerer Nevar, who would don a black hooded cloak and metal mask.
The show briefly made a return in 2017 for two seasons but with Aisha Toussaint as host, but it was then dropped again.
Scottish TV star James, who also features in Scotland soap opera River City, confirmed the show is making its return to BBC iPlayer.
He wrote on X: “RAVEN IS BACK ON @BBCiPlayer what the actual??!! Enjoy young warriors, #letthechallengebegin.”
20 episodes of series nine of the classic children’s show have been added, with fans begging for more.
One fan replied to James’ post: “ICONIC. This was MY childhood show.”
Another shared: “Oh I will! Time to relive the best childhood known to man!!”
“Omg see everyone in 3-4 business days I have matters to attend to,” joked a third.
Another posted: “Funny, I was just thinking this when I was watching Traitors. I missed this. I want more shows like this since I’ve learned I missed various ones that came out before/around the time I was born. This was great fun to watch.”
“I used to love watching this as a kid, glad the show (and its awesome host) are back!” said another.
Another view wrote: “I can’t wait to show my 12 year old sister this. Epic after school viewing.”
The original series won several BAFTAs and the first seven were filmed in Scotland at Castle Toward before moving to Aviemore.
So far the BBC hasn’t confirmed any new series of the show, but James has previously been vocal in begging for the BBC to bring it back.
Taking to X, he wrote: “Come on @bbcpress if there was ever a time for Raven 3.0 it’s now!! Letthechallengebegin #traitors @the_traitors_ @BBCiPlayer @BBCScotland.”
Fans agree as one replied: “Would absolutely love to see this happen.”
Another said: “Our daughter would be beside herself with excitement. She was thrilled to see you in the CBeebies panto (or pants as autocorrect had it).”
