As Micah Shrewsberry explodes afterwards

Notre Dame hung with Louisville for about 32 minutes or so before the Cardinals pulled away. Notre Dame is without Matt Allocco (wrist) and he’s done a lot for this team since transferring from Princeton.

As we thought, Chucky Hepburn was a problem for Notre Dame, scoring 16 points and passing out six assists, while playing his usual stout defense.

Every Louisville starter finished in double figures and the Cardinals shot 49.1 percent overall and 33.3 percent from behind the line.

Markus Burton finished with 22 points but shot just 8-18 and had six turnovers. Braeden Shrewsberry was just 4-14 for 12 points. Tae Davis, who has shown real potential, finished with 15 points and seven came from the foul line.

The really wild stuff came afterwards. You may remember Shrewsberry’s press conference last season when he ripped his team for a lack of effort against The Citadel and invited anyone who wasn’t serious to transfer.

That paid off.

This time?

It may not.

Shrewsberry had a tirade after the loss to Louisville that may become legendary at Notre Dame. Here’s a sample:

“I don’t care about anybody’s opinion. I know who I am. I know I can coach basketball, and I know I’m turning this program around. So, you gave up on me already? I don’t want to see you back here. I don’t give a damn, but don’t give up on these kids.

“We’re going to get this thing rolling...

“Because I’m the head coach here. Yes, I got us in this predicament, but don’t come back when we’re winning. We’re turning this around. Everyone that gave up on me, write this date down and believe it because we’re going to get this thing rolling.

“I don’t care if you gave up on me or not.”

We can understand the pressures to an extent. The season has not gone well. However, despite the tirade, we think that Shrewsberry will get it done. He’s got an excellent class coming in next year and may do well in the portal; we’ll have to see.

Anyway, we’ll know soon. In the meantime, he needs to work on his composure.
