Satirical, comedic musical to take the stage in Glens Falls
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Drag Queen Story Hour: The Musical is coming to the Charles R. Wood Theater stage in Downtown Glens Falls in June. The comedic, satirical production runs from June 6 to June 8.
The family-friendly musical, starring Scarlet Sagamore, also known as Jake Evans, takes shots at book bans, pride flag crackdowns, and LGBTQ+ protests. It was written by writer and producer Neal Herr.
Herr, born in Texas, came to Glens Falls later in life to raise his family. He wrote the musical without knowing Evans but later found out that the drag performer was contracted to perform at the Rockwell Public Library in 2023, but never got the chance because of protests and online harassment.
Evans and Herr first came in contact on a phone call while Herr was at the Saratoga Pride Festival. They grew to form trust between each other and this led to Evans becoming the star of the musical. Herr even wrote the theme song of the show with Evans in mind following the growth of their friendship.
Tickets are available on the theater's website now. The musical will have four showings, one at 7:30 p.m. on June 6, one at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on June 7, and one at 2:30 p.m. on June 8.
