Winter storm warning issued in NE Kansas
KANSAS (KSNT) — Later on Tuesday, a winter storm is expected to hit the northeast and portions of central, east central, and north central Kansas.
On Monday, the National Weather Service (NWS) of Topeka issued a winter storm warning and extreme cold warning that will be in effect until midnight on Wednesday. The NWS says snowfall between five and seven inches is possible with higher amounts south of the I-35 corridor.
The NWS says roads and especially bridges and overpasses will be slick and hazardous. The NWS said to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
KSNT News Meteorologist Ely Millard says the storm will be paired with some of the coldest air this year with feels-like temperatures that could reach -30°F. He says the storm will cover the entire northeast area. Millard says the counties in the northern part of the area are expected to have the least snowfall.
Millard said Thursday is expected to have the coldest temperatures this week when Topeka could see temperatures as low as -29°F. Temperatures are expected to warm back up by the weekend.

- Jackson
- Jefferson
- Ottawa
- Dickinson
- Geary
- Morris
- Wabaunsee
- Douglas
- Lyon
- Osage
- Franklin
- Coffey
- Anderson
