A much-needed win for Tottenham

There has been a lot of doom and gloom surrounding Spurs over the last few months as the squad has been decimated by injuries and has struggled to pick up wins.

In fact, it was suggested by some before the game against United a defeat on Sunday would spell curtains for Ange Postecoglou, who was a man under immense pressure.

However, boosted by the return of James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham overcame Man Utd for the third time this season, and by doing so, they have set some impressive records.

Ange Postecoglou sets impressive Man Utd record

According to BBC Sport, Tottenham become the first team to beat the Red Devils three times in one season since Chelsea in 2012-13, with the Lilywhites also proving victorious in the reverse tie at Old Trafford and in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal at home.

Meanwhile, Squawka reveal that Postecoglou became the first Tottenham manager to do a league double over United in the Premier League era and also the first Spurs boss to beat the Manchester club three times in a single campaign.

Additionally, he became just the fourth manager to go unbeaten in his first four games against the 13-time Premier League winners. The 59-year-old is yet to taste defeat against Man Utd in his 18 months in charge at Spurs.

A stark difference in United and Spurs’ patterns of play

Amorim and Postecoglou are in a similar boat, with both managers under pressure and looking to lift their clubs out of a part of the table where they do not belong.

However, in the game on Sunday, it was clear that only one team had clear role clarity and established patterns of play.

Spurs once again showed what is possible under Postecoglou if things click for them while United under Amorim are yet to show any signs of promise.

The performance and the result arguably vindicated Tottenham’s decision to stick with their head coach rather than follow INEOS’s example by making a change at the top.
