What Two Hosts of 'SNL' Committed Murder? 'SNL50' Joke Explained

0

John Mulaney made quite the murder joke during the opening monologue for SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Sunday night (February 16).

The 42-year-old former Saturday Night Live writer, who often penned the monologues for hosts, joined Steve Martin during the SNL50 opening monologue and joked about two hosts who had allegedly committed murder.

“We writers really appreciated that tribute, but I believe the heart and soul of this show is the celebrity hosts, many of whom are in this room tonight,” John said. “As I look around, I see some of the most difficult people I have ever met in my entire life. Over the course of 50 years, 894 people have hosted Saturday Night Live, and it amazes me that only two of them have committed murder.”

So, who was he referring to?

The two SNL hosts John is likely speaking about are OJ Simpson and Robert Blake.

OJ was convicted of killing of his estranged wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in the 1990s, but he was acquitted. He hosted SNL on February 25, 1978.

Robert was charged with the killing of Bonnie Lee Bakley in 2002. His trial began in December 2004 and he was ultimately found not guilty in March 2005. He hosted SNL on November 13, 1982.
