Anora Star Mikey Madison Had a Special Message for Her ‘Mommy’ During Her Baftas Acceptance Speech
In case you missed it, Mikey Madison just won the BAFTA for Best Leading Actress, for her incredible performance as Anora in the film, Anora. While the internet was cheering from their homes, and the crowd was applauding her at the BAFTAs, we can tell that her mother is her number one supporter.
How do we know this? Well, in her acceptance speech, Madison thanked numerous people in the film with her and talked about her allyship with sex workers, she spoke the most about her beloved mother!
“I wasn’t expecting this,” she said when she took the stage, later adding that while her mother wasn’t there, she is so supportive of her. “She’s not here, but she has driven me to literally hundreds of auditions, helped me put so many on tape, always helps me memorize my lines, and she’s my favorite scene partner. I love you, Mommy.”

Also in the running for BAFTA’s lead film actress prize this year were Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez, Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Hard Truths, Demi Moore for The Substance and Saoirse Ronan for The Outrun; all of whom Madison shouted out in her speech.
In a previous interview with Interview Magazine, Madison talked about how both of her parents being psychologists influenced her career, saying, “My parents being psychologists, I’ve grown up really understanding people and why they do things and why they don’t do things.”
