Warner Bros. Begins Working on 'Goonies 2,' 1 Key Player Confirmed to Return

The Goonies is officially getting a very belated sequel!

The cult classic movie, which starred the likes of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton, premiered all the way back in the summer of 1985 and has a devoted following still 40 years later.

This week, Warner Bros. brought on a script writer to begin putting together a story for a new movie in the series.

At least one key player has been confirmed to return, too.

According to reporting by Deadline, the studio brought on Potsy Ponciroli to craft the script. Plot deals and the cast list are still under wraps.

However, it has been confirmed that Steven Spielberg is returning as a producer for the sequel. The iconic director worked on the original movie as a producer and created the story.

The outlet noted that multiple stars from the first movie have expressed interest in doing a sequel. We will update you if we learn more about the plans!
