Eden Tyres – who shared the game-changing tip – has credited a former NASA engineer, and it doesn’t involve scraping or warm water.

There is also a ‘magic’ dashboard button to clear icy windscreens[/caption]

In a video on Instagram and TikTok, they outlined the steps, saying: “Here is the best way to defrost your windscreen, according to a former Nasa engineer.

“Step one, turn on the car heater immediately, and put it at full blast.

“Step two, turn on the car’s air conditioning, as it’ll help to soak up the remainder of any moisture inside.

“Step three, turn off the car’s air circulation button – when turned on this traps the humidity inside.”

They added: “Step four, slightly unexpected, but open all of the car windows, only ever so slightly as this will help exchange humidity in the car for the dry air that’s outside – and voila, a nice defrosted windscreen.”

However, one commenter warned that motorists should be careful when opening the windows as if they’re frozen they could break the window regulators.

AA ADVICE

The AA also offers winter driving guidance, emphasising the importance of a fully clear windscreen.

They stress: “It’s important to make sure that your windscreen is completely defrosted before you try driving in winter. It’s not enough just to clear a small patch to see through.”

It adds motorists should then:

  • Make sure your wipers aren’t on before you switch on the engine, in case they’re frozen to the glass.
  • Turn on the engine and turn on the warm air blower. You can also use the aircon to remove moisture inside the car.
  • Turn on the rear-windscreen heater and heated mirrors if you have them.
  • Use a scraper and de-icer on your windscreen while you wait for the car to heat up.

Previously, we’ve revealed the “magic” dashboard button to defrost the windscreen in seconds.

The handy trick will also keep your car warm after your view has been cleared.

Instructors at Driving Test Success have taken to TikTok to share some top tips for dealing with the problem.

They explained: “Frozen windscreen? Put the temperature on high. Put the front windscreen fan on max.

“The ice will start to melt from the heat. Wipe away excess water and return the fan to normal.”

One viewer who tried out the trick said: “Wow, magic. The ice is gone.”

You can direct the fan at the windscreen using a dashboard button found on most modern motors.

The switch is usually marked with a windscreen symbol with three wavy arrows through it, with another often provided for the rear windscreen.

However, the engine does need to be on for this to work so make sure to stay without your vehicle while the ice is melting.

Also, try and avoid using the tip when stopped on a public road as you could find yourself getting an £80 fine for idling.
