Tottenham could raise £150m by selling four players this summer – opinion
The summer window is lurking around the corner and Tottenham will likely need to sell as well as buy. But who should they cash in on to raise funds for incomings?
The need for a refresh of the Tottenham squad
The Tottenham Hotspur squad is in need of a refresh this summer, which could be achieved through both new signings and player sales.
Due to the ongoing injury crisis, Ange Postecoglou has been forced to rely on a small group of players for most of the season. While this has had some negative consequences, it has also provided a few positives.
The Tottenham manager will have gained a clearer understanding of which players are capable of performing at the highest level and which ones have been inconsistent.
Four players Tottenham should sell in the summer
With this in mind, we have compiled a list of four players Spurs should consider selling this summer.
Cristian Romero
It might not be a popular opinion, but selling Cristian Romero could be something Tottenham Hotspur will want to consider this summer.
There is no doubt that Romero has been a good servant for the club. However, given the number of games both he and Van de Ven have missed this season, there is a strong possibility that Spurs might be tempted to cash in on him if a suitable offer comes in.
Moreover, with the club being linked to several defenders ahead of the summer transfer window, it could be a sensible strategy to target a defender who is less injury-prone than Romero. Marc Guéhi remains a viable option.
- Price signed for £41.6m – potential summer selling fee £65m
Yves Bissouma
One thing that has become increasingly evident this season is that Tottenham’s midfield is in need of a refresh. Yves Bissouma, in particular, has struggled for consistency.
In some matches, he has looked impressive, but in others, he has appeared a shadow of his usual self. At this level, he seems to lack the reliability required for a top Premier League side.
There have been reports linking Johnny Cardoso with a move to Spurs. Should the Lilywhites secure his signature, it could spell the end for Bissouma at the club.
- Price signed £30m – potential summer selling fee £25m
Manor Solomon
Manor Solomon has been highly impressive during his loan spell at Leeds United. In 28 appearances this season, the Israeli winger has contributed to 15 goals, scoring seven and assisting eight.
His performances have been so impactful that Leeds United fans are calling for the club to make the move permanent.
If Tottenham can secure a fee in the region of £20 million for a player they signed on a free transfer, it would represent good business for the club.
- Price signed for free – potential summer selling fee £20 million
Richarlison
Richarlison’s talent is undeniable; however, injuries have severely hindered his momentum at Tottenham. Since joining the club, he has missed a total of 50 games due to injury.
This season alone, he has been sidelined for 29 matches, raising serious concerns about his reliability.
Considering the number of games Spurs are expected to play each season and the significant time Richarlison spends on the sidelines, parting ways with the forward this summer might be the best solution for both parties. Newcastle United are said to be interested and £40m is the expected fee.
- Price signed for £60m – potential summer selling fee £40m
The fees mentioned are not definitive but are speculative estimates based on predictions.
