A report in Estadio Deportivo now discusses the topic of whether Girona will take up the option to buy Gil in the summer, explaining that the club are yet to finalise the decision.

It is revealed La Liga side sent a hint to the wide-man on his birthday this week by posting a message on social media using the phrase ‘for many years’, which may be an indication that they expect the player to continue at the Estadi Montilivi beyond the summer.

The Spanish side have the option to buy the winger permanently for €15m (£12.4m), but that would represent a big outlay for the club, and they might need to qualify for Europe to be able to afford that fee.

The outlet adds that many at Girona feel that Gil would be a sound investment for the future as his value is only likely to rise, but a permanent move for the Spurs man is still being debated at the club’s headquarters.

Girona will be aware that if they do not make a move for Gil, the player will be snapped up by a La Liga rival.

A lot of Spanish clubs would have been impressed by the former Sevilla man’s displays this season and would be keeping an eye on his situation ahead of the summer.

The one thing that appears certain at the moment is that barring a huge turn of events, Gil is on his way out of Tottenham in the summer.
