E-ZPass warns of text scam

0

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Thruway Authority is warning drivers of a scam that involves fake text messages telling people they have unpaid tolls. The text asks for a response to the message as well as personal information.

The Thruway Authority said E-ZPass or Tolls by Mail does not send a text or email requesting personal information. A real text would come from 39769, begins with EZPNY, and features the official TBM/EZP websites.

The fake texts are sent from an international number, requests to reply with "Y" to receive the link, and contains an unofficial website.

If you are in doubt whether or not you have received an authentic message, you can call 1-800-333-8655.
